About the People of South Korea

Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is one of the most populated cities in the world with Busan and Incheon not lagging far behind. The Koreans follow a common cultural and linguistic heritage and hence there is strong unity among them. But there is a small Chinese community which does follow its own religious beliefs and ethnic customs.

Korean is the main language spoken in the country. It has some relation with the Japanese and Mongolian. English as a second language is taught in primary and secondary schools. Languages like Chinese and Japanese are taught in secondary schools.

Christianity and Buddhism are the main religions of the people of Korea. But the people are secular and are tolerant towards the minority religions such as Hinduism and Judaism. The Koreans are deep-rooted in Confucian values and beliefs.

The main problem that besotted the population till a few years back was the mass exodus of the Korean population to countries like United States and Canada. But due to the significant improvement in the country’s economic and livable conditions, Korea is seeing a reverse trend. Now Korea is experiencing an increase in the number of Non-Koreans. Needless to say, most of these are unauthorized entry from countries like South and Southeast Asian countries and Nigeria.
